Product Information


The J5 MIDI Pro input/output interface provides a digital MIDI out signal from your ION drums or any other electronic drum set. The J5 MIDI Pro is a replacement for the old J5 Guitar Hero and J5 Rock Band units, as well as the ION Expansion Box.

The J5 MIDI Pro is specifically designed for use with the MadCatz Rock Band 3 MIDI Pro adaptor or the Guitar Hero OEM Drumsset's MIDI input.

The J5 MIDI Pro provides 9 analog drum inputs with individual threshold adjustment. Rock Band / ION  pedal inputs are available as an add on option for single or double bass pedal action.

As with all RockBandKickBox products, the J5 MIDI Pro is plug and play and requires no programming.  If you wish to switch between Guitar Hero and Rock Band, simply swap the MIDI cable fromo your Guitar Hero module or Rock Band 3 Midi Pro adapter accordingly and press the mode switch.


Modes of operation:

1 - Guitar Hero
2 - Rock Band 2/3 with internal J5 HH functionality (Yellow closed - Blue open)  *See HH notes below.
3 - Rock Band 3 with HH functionality when Pro Mode HH pedal is enabled in game.  *See HH notes below
4 - Rock Band 3 with Red-Yellow (Snare-HH) Swap

The J5 MIDI Pro has an additional drum brain option that adds a second row of ports (similar to the previous ION Expansion Box) for patching in a drum brain as well as a HH pedal control input.  This is an option especially useful if you plan to fully integrate an external drum brain (Alesis, Pintech, Roland, etc.) with your drumkit.

*HH Notes:

HH functionality has been changed. Push button toggles between 2 hh options now!

The internal j5 hh function changes the yellow HH cymbal (pedal down) to the blue cymbal (pedal up)

The RockBand Pro mode hh pedal option always plays yellow cymbal, but changes the sound to an open hh similar to the blue cymbal when the pedal is up.  You would only notice this in freestyle mode.
